Sousou no Frieren [Volumes 1-3]

A story about the longest-lived member of an adventuring party that successfully defeated the Evil Overlord, and how she copes with her life after her companions grow old and pass on.

It’s really wonderful. It’s not a very spread-heavy work, but the art is immaculate and easily readable. The focus is much more on this mage, who held herself apart from humanity, and the slow change in her philosophy from not caring for people (as from her perspective they would all die within one-hundredth of her lifespan) to how the briefness of their lives means they matter.

As a side note, since these stories often play out over years it’s not uncommon to have time skip montages of months at a time sometimes, which lends a different dimension to the storytelling than usual.

Equally somber and delightful in turn, I highly recommend taking a look. I can’t remember if i picked this up from a rec here or not, but if I did, I’m grateful.
